Re Brahms 2--after three chunky heavyweight movements, the fourth is a breath of fresh air, and delightful--don't you think? It's nice to play after all the sturm and drang!!

I just listened to the Hamilton Harty concerto...not bad really.

Both Brahms concerti are perfect in themselves...the fiddle one isn't bad either...is there anything this guy couldn't do? I have a box set of all the Brahms solo piano music...not a bad way to spend 8 hours j/k

I hope one day to perform the original nonet version of the 1st serenade! There is nothing better than Brahms in a chamber setting!

How hard is the piano part of the Horn Trio? Ever perform it? So the fact that Brahms had a big hand makes his music hard to play? yes? no?

Piano part is fine--the piano parts in the string trios are quite challenging, but once you get it, it's ok too.

No one's mentioned the Ravel Left Hand, composer just prior to the more famous G Major. It's not as big a piece as the G Major, but the slow section that precedes the Allegro is some of the most heart-wrenching music he ever composer. The slow "tune" is one of his absolute best. And the piano part is fantastic. He manages to create an almost complete part for just one hand. (In a way I like to compare it to what he did in the Sonata for Violin and Cello--a "quartet" for two instruments!)

I mean "composed." Sorry for the typos!
