I'm sure we're all feeling for the musicians of the Syracuse Symphony, whose season was abruptly cut short last week. Earlier today, I published a profile of one of the laid-off musicians who happens to be an old friend of mine on the Minnesota Orchestra's Inside the Classics blog. The link is below.

Obviously, a blog post won't do much of anything to revive the orchestra, but my hope is that non-musicians reading it might gain a greater understanding of the human cost of an organization like the SSO simply fading away.

Problem is, orchestras' issues don't really effect laypersons. They don't care. Orchestras haven't done enough to be relevent in their communities. The human suffering brought on by such a sudden demise of an orchestra can only be appreciated by musicians. Heck, most folks still wonder if musicians get paid. It looks so "fun."
Really, it's a tree falling in the forest.
