After some last minute hope that a "miracle" might happen and the NMSO might actually be saved, it appears that Chapter 7 will, indeed, be filed tomorrow.

The musicians and the chorus gave a farewell concert last night of Beethoven's Ninth to a sold-out audience and several standing ovations. It remains clear that symphonic music DOES have a place in this city and state!

After seeing how the community has responded with emails, letters, donations, etc, I can now say, without reservation now, that this bankruptcy might be a blessing in disguise for the musicians of the NMSO. Pete nailed it when he said it's a good orchestra plagued by bad management. The NMSO has been plagued for decades with the small-minded thinking of a board that had no interest in having the symphony grow with the community. Now maybe the musicians can start over and try to build something with a board that wants to work hard to be the stewards of the organization and strive for growth and prosperity. It will be very hard work, especially in this economic climate, but we believe it can happen!

I was in Albuquerque last week on vacation, and I happened to be there when they played an outdoor concert that the New Mexico Philharmonic played at the zoo.
