Regarding the Classical lovers high on more than music posted as the top story on MyAuditions home page, I find it interesting that they discuss the audiences preference for intoxicants but they woefully fail to address the needs of musicians. Such bias!

They should do a study by instrument and determine which drugs are most popular with each. Me being a clarinetist with my personality being a practical jokester, my preference (if I really did indeed partake) would be Speed. Need to have it to reach all my keys.

I know for a fact a lot of musicians are druggies, famous ones at that. My lips are sealed but I know first hand.

The funny thing was, classical musicians made the headline -- but when you read further, the percentages of other kinds of musicians were MUCH higher... and yet that didn't seem to be news... hmmmmmm Wink

Actually, in the original story, on the BBC, the classical angle was not the major header, since, as you say, the percentage of classical fans using drugs was actually rather low. MyAuditions (and several other classically focused sites) chose to focus on the classical angle because that's the focus of their site.

What I find interesting is that the study focused on listeners of various musical genres, not the musicians who play the music. Presumably, this was because the researchers were already well aware of the high level of drug use (especially "soft" drugs) among musicians across the board...

What I think would be interesting fodder is the use of drugs by performers of classical music for releif of stress vs. the resoning of drug use amongst other performers. I don't feel that the general public realizes the stress level of classical music performers of the amoung of intoxicants used by such performers.

On a side note - would enderal be considered a drug? I know my thoughts but what are yours (in the collective sense)?
