I am from Miami and a long time supporter of the Florida Philharmonic. I am pretty upset that they are in the process of going under because of lack of funds. Anyone have an update on what the latest news from them is?

They've got a one week extension to try and raise the money are arranging to file bankruptcy. Did you see the article posted on the Louisville Orchestra? Seems like it is happening to a lot of orchestras.

They are finished. Filed for bankruptcy and fired all their musicians this past friday. There is an article in MyAuditions News section.

I guess I should be thinking about grad school since there are fewer openings available.

There is currently only the Miami Symphony around in the S. Florida Area, and even they can't afford to pay the musicians. I'm currently playing with a number of volunteer groups and doing small gigs for churches etc. on the side.

The way things are going, the volunteer groups are building a following by offing quality, cheap or even free concerts to the communities. As a result, some of these groups might eventually go pro at some point if there is enough $$ and enough interest to support them.
