I don't want to give this one away. Just watch the video. It must have been live on NHK. It happened in 2004. According to the poster, the concertmaster is Masafumi Hori.

Unbelievable !

So, this is discipline. But it was a real concert... The CM looked so humble. But where was the conductor anyway ? Or it was supposed to be without a conductor ?

This is what the poster of the video said:

""The conductor has pierced the baton to the hand when performing(The conductor is Ashkenazy)
Instead, the concertmaster had to conduct in haste(The concertmaster conducted all the movements of this symphony)
The concertmaster is Masafumi Hori.

This is a very serious thing,
and the concertmaster should think about things of all musical instruments,
and cannot do such correspondence if all things are not in the head.""

Oh, just cannot imagine that it was because of a "disaster" happened. The CM was so calm and confident. Which means he might remember all the details that the conductor instructed during the rehearsals. He has really done a very good job beyond his responsibility !

Thanks for your kind words in your blog post. That really means a lot to me.

The whole reason I do what I do is to get the word out about anything to do with classical music on the web. Everything that I post is information that I hope will get distributed to as many people as possible.

Keep doing what you do. I find your devotion and love of music inspiring, and I check out lots of your links. This one was a treat, the guy was as cool as a cucumber. I tried to envision myself in his shoes. I hope I never have to take that test in real life!
