So, who do you think are some of the top orchestral administrators, which orchestras and why?

I have to put in a plug for my own orchestra and its ED, Deborah Borda. In the 6 or so years she has been here, the orchestra has experienced a huge turnaround beginning with the opening of Walt Disney Concert Hall. Deborah has been key in working with musicians, the MD, the Board and the community in her efforts for the LA Philharmonic. We have enjoyed an excellent rapport with her and were lucky enough to have come away with a truly ground-breaking contract during our last set of negotiations.

We are very lucky these days to have a good relationship all the way around - highly unusual in these times. I think that whatever she gets paid, she's worth it.
