Congrats to Jacqueline! Huge congrats!!! "This is my first audition". "Hopefully one of the last ones". You did it! And congrats to her teacher - Dr. Brad Garner!

week trial? year trial? I thought trial offers were usually kept quiet until something was official. It would be interesting to see people's consensus on this (not trying to stir any drama by any means).

The word on the street - two weeks trial. Sometime during this season, I guess.

I too heard that a trial was offered - although I heard it was 1 week. One week, two weeks ...either way, congratulations to Ms. Arrington on a job well done, first time out!
Best of luck to you!

Does anyone know what will happen now that Jackie, wasn't offered the position after trial (Sh posted on her facebook, that she didn't win the job after 12 days in LA). Will they have another audition or will the finalists of the 1st audition be offered a trial period?

Not a big surprise when there are trials. What will happen now? Simple: reset button, aka another audition, probably this coming season. They may invite prior finalists to be finalists again, but they usually can't/don't offer them a trial unless there's another audition process, unless it's a private one.

If there is an audition it will collide with the NY Phil's 2nd Flute audition won't it? It will be interesting to see what happens in NYC and LA!

I also noticed there is a vacancy in the Pacific Symphony! What happened to Mercedes Smith? Wasn't she the new principal player for a year or more?

Mercedes didn't receive tenure.

Why do some orchestras allow the Music Director to have sole discretion in granting tenure? If there is no tenure committee, why even have musicians on the audition committee if the conductor has the right to deny tenure to a person the audition committee wants to grant tenure to (or vice versa)?

That's a complicated question that deserves it's own thread. I'm sure it's been discussed here, at length, at some point.

I'd also like to point out that this position hasn't been filled long-term in quite a while. There has been an audition almost every year since about 2005, although this is certainly not the only position that has had difficulty getting filled. Johndeer, that's a very good question, although unfortunately, i don't think there's an easy answer to it.
