I just saw on the Florida Orchestra website that the bass auditions were canceled this week~ Does anyone know why? Are they having financial problems down there? I see that the season is shorter now.

I am wondering as they have recently advertised a principal flute audition for March.

Maybe candidates should get deposit checks from orchestras nowadays

The audition was an "Emergency Audition" to fill a section vacancy for the remainder of this season. The vacancy was created by Aaron White winning a gig with Pittsburgh.

It was decided to fill the 1yr vacancy via appointment (allowed by our contract) when a newly arrived local bass player auditioned for our sub-list and was of exceptional quality (and had several yrs experience with a major European orchestra).

In light of the need for a player right away and the brevity of the appointment, it was felt to be best for all concerned to appoint for the 1yr position. (saving the orchestra and applicants the cost of an audition for 4 mos of work)

As for the Princ Flute Audition (permanant position)... it's still on as announced... start practicing!!
